Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spinal disorder characterized by an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. Normally, the spine has a slight S-shaped curve when viewed from the side, but is straight when viewed from the front or back. With scoliosis, the spine curves to the right or left, creating a “C” or “S”-shaped appearance.
Types of Scoliosis

-
Idiopathic Scoliosis: It is the most common type and its cause is not known exactly. It usually occurs during adolescence.
-
Congenital Scoliosis: It is caused by a congenital anomaly in the development of the spine.
-
Neuromuscular Scoliosis: Occurs due to muscle or nerve diseases.
Symptoms

-
Asymmetrical shoulders or hips
-
The appearance of a noticeably curved spine
-
Back pain (in advanced cases)
-
Visual changes such as leg length difference
While mild cases of scoliosis can be kept under control with observation and physical therapy, advanced curvatures may require surgical intervention. Early diagnosis and regular follow-up are important in stopping the progression of scoliosis.
