ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) is an endoscopic procedure performed to examine and treat the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts. In this procedure, a flexible tube (endoscope) is used that is inserted through the mouth and reaches the stomach and duodenum. Contrast material is injected into these areas to better view the bile and pancreatic ducts, and then X-ray imaging is performed. With the ERCP procedure, problems such as gallstones, duct obstructions, narrowing, inflammation or tumors can be detected and treated.

Common uses of ERCP include

  1. Gallstones: To clear stones from the bile ducts.

  2. Obstruction or narrowing: To open narrowing or blockages in the bile ducts or pancreatic ducts.

  3. Diagnosis of tumors or cysts: Especially in patients with suspected tumors or cysts in the pancreas or bile ducts.

  4. Bile duct infections or inflammations: To diagnose and treat infections and inflammations in these areas.

ERCP is an effective method that can be used for both diagnosis and treatment at the same time.
