Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, typically performed due to serious health issues related to the uterus. Conditions that may require a hysterectomy include uterine cancer, severe endometriosis, uterine fibroids, chronic pelvic pain, and abnormal bleeding.

Types of Hysterectomy
-
Total Hysterectomy: The entire uterus, including the cervix, is removed.
-
Partial (Subtotal) Hysterectomy: Only the upper part of the uterus is removed, leaving the cervix intact.
-
Radical Hysterectomy: The uterus, cervix, surrounding tissues, and lymph nodes are removed; this is usually performed in cancer treatment.
The surgery can be done through an abdominal incision, vaginally, or using laparoscopic methods. After a hysterectomy, menstruation stops, fertility is lost, and hormonal changes may occur. This surgery is a significant decision for a woman's health, and patients are advised to have a thorough evaluation with a specialist.
