Hip Prosthesis is a surgical procedure used to treat conditions such as severe damage or osteoarthritis in the hip joint. During this procedure, the damaged or worn-out parts of the joint are replaced with an artificial joint (prosthesis) made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. This helps to reduce the patient's pain and improve mobility.

Who is Suitable for Hip Prosthesis Surgery ?

Hip prosthesis is typically recommended for the following conditions:

  • Advanced osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis

  • Severe cartilage wear in the hip joint

  • Persistent pain and difficulty in walking or performing daily activities

  • Lack of response to physical therapy and medication

Surgical Process

During the surgery, the damaged hip joint is removed and replaced with a prosthesis. The prosthesis consists of two main components:

  • Femoral Head: A metal or ceramic piece attached to the femur (thigh bone).

  • Acetabulum (Hip Socket Prosthesis): The part that sits on the hip bone and receives the femoral head.

Post-surgery rehabilitation is crucial. Patients typically stay in the hospital for a few days, and activities like walking and exercises are gradually introduced. Full recovery may take several months.
