Prof.Dr. Bülent Ünal

Prof. Dr. Bülent Ünal is a distinguished surgeon specializing in liver and kidney transplantation, oncological surgery, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, gastrointestinal system surgery, endocrine surgery, breast surgery, and oncoplastic surgery. With a comprehensive background in complex surgical interventions, he is recognized for his expertise in both organ transplants and cancer treatments, making significant contributions to the fields of surgery and oncology.

Education and Expertise

Prof. Dr. Ünal completed his medical education at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1996, followed by a master's degree. In 2001, he earned his doctorate and specialty qualification at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital.

Professional Experience

Prof. Dr. Ünal’s career began at Fındıklı Merkez Health Center in 1996-1997, after which he gained extensive experience at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital until 2007. He continued his career at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine, where he progressed through academic roles, becoming an associate professor in 2010 and a full professor in 2015. During this time, he specialized in surgical oncology and contributed to numerous groundbreaking surgeries. From 2017 to 2021, he served as the Head of the Department of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology at Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine. In 2021, he joined Istanbul Aydın University as a professor in the Department of General Surgery, specializing in organ transplantation.

International Experience

Prof. Dr. Ünal’s expertise is further enhanced by his international experience. In 2008, he worked at the Surgical Oncology Clinic at Magee-Womens Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA, under the National Cancer Institute’s Research Scholarship Program, where he gained training in sentinel node application and ductoscopy for breast cancer. In 2010, he furthered his knowledge in transplantation and oncology surgery at Giessen-Marburg University in Germany.
