Prof.Dr. Barış AKİN

 

Prof. Dr. Barış Akin, who graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1995, also received the "ECFMG Certificate" that gave him the right to practice medicine in the United States. Prof. Dr. Akin, who graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine General Surgery Program in 2000 and became a General Surgery Specialist, completed his subspecialty in Organ Transplantation Surgery at Ohio State University.

He continued his work as an Organ Transplant Surgeon in the USA by receiving the American Society of Transplant Surgeons Transplant Surgeon Certificate. During his time in the USA, Prof. Dr. Barış Akin performed 250 kidney transplants and 280 laparoscopic kidney removal surgeries. In return for these studies, he was awarded the “Young Researcher Award” at the American Transplant Congress in 2004.

Prof. Dr. Barış Akin, who returned to Turkey in 2004 and started working at Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals, is the director of our Kidney Transplantation Center. Thanks to the "retroperitonoscopy" technique developed by Prof. Dr. Barış Akin, the kidney removal procedure from volunteer kidney donors can be performed more safely and comfortably.

More than 1000 successful surgeries have been performed with this technique applied in our Kidney Transplant Center since 2009. The retroperitoneoscopy technique has become a method described in many medical congresses in America, Europe and our country.
